Welcome to The Staupter's Web Site

CHRISTMAS BREAK

This Christmas break, my cousins, aunts and uncles visited from Brazil. My family, them and I did a lot of cool things like go to Laguna beach and watch a lot of movies. We went to a lot of restaurants, made trips to the Americana, and walked around a lot. I love spending time with them. it's always fun hanging out with them.

1/9/17

Today, the class watched a instructional video regarding the rules for a challenge that the veterans are currently engaged in. The veterans showed us their progress thus far. Students were encouraged to suggest ideas and ask questions (even our thoughts may prove relevent to the completion and the comprehension of the application of the challenge).

1/10/17

Today, the students were instucted to create a student Google account. Things progressed smoothly for the most part. However, there were those who got locked out of their accounts because of the "insane" methods that they decided to employ. Mr. Miller became a little bit triggered at the advent of this situation. When everything was set up, Mr. Miller showed us the worth of Google by demonstrating its easy-to-navigate features and the various applications that it enables us to use.

1/11/17

Today's Wednesday, which means the class had a Wendesday challenge. Both rookies and veterans participated in the challenge. The goal of the challenge was to cut out a 1 ft by 1 ft square of cardboard using the materials provided to us by the teachers and (THE MAN! THE MYTH! THE LEGEND!) Tony. My partner was Garen. We managed to finish the challenge on time, and I believe that we have a real shot at winning the challenge. Picture of our cardboard square is located at the bottom of this entry. Feel free to bask in all of its glory.! >:).

Cardboard Square Challenge

1/12/17

Today, students were instructed to upload a selfie of oneself holding/standing next to the cardboard square that the class worked on during the Wenesday challenge. Some people had trouble fulfilling such a simple/easy task, so while the others struggled, I was easily able to follow instructions. When I was done with my assignment, I got out my math hw and decided to work on it.

1/13/17

Today, the veterans told the class how the steamworks challenge was progressing. They elaborated on their tank design and explained their individual roles that they assigned each other.

1/17/17

Today, the class heard about different ways to create a website from Dr. Neato, Mr. Miller, and Kirk. Some tools were introduced and some detailed websites were shown.

1/18/17

Today was a Wednesday challenge. I was partnered with the very smart Connor, and the ugly Zachary. The challenge succeeded. >:)

Eballa Wednesday Challenge

1/19/17

Today, the class was split into two groups. Dr. Neato taught one group how to use html, and Mr. Miller taught the other group how to use Google. I decided to learn how to use html. Neato showed us how to create a homepage for our websites. Cole helped me out a lot. He did a lot of stuff for me that Dr. Neato still had to go over. I learned a lot from watching him.

1/20/17

Today, the veterans informed us of their progress regarding the Steamworks Challenge that they've been working on. I wasn't really listening to their presentation, so I don't know what to put from here. Everything they said sounded complicated though.

1/23/17

Today, Dr. Neato talked about website grades. He went over his process for grading and showed some examples of exemplorary student websites.

1/24/17

Today, Dr. Neato introduced a new project. Students were assigned the task of creating a go-cart solely out of cardboard, straws, and wood glue. The students that were caught up with their websites; in other words, those students who weren't experiencing any technical difficulties were given the privilege of working on their go-carts. I managed to solve my own personal glitches and got to work on my go-cart a little bit at the end of the period.

1/25/17

Today, students were assigned a pretty huge Wednesday challenge. The groups were chosen by the students. In those groups, people had to create something that: is cool; has the number 589 written somewhere; is cheap 2 make; is homemade; connects to the Steamworks Challenge; can be mass produced.
SpinnerGear Wed Challenge

1/26/17

Today, The Twin Teachers showed the class a robotics video. It was visually appealing (not really) and very interesting (I can't remember what the heck it was about). So, I guess my entry is filled up now. Chao for now!

1/27/17

Today, the veterans talked about the Robotics Steamworks challenge. They went over their progress thus far and showed that fun little educational video that went over the rules and procedures of the challenge. Ha Ha!

1/30/17

Today, Dr. Neato gave the class time to work on their websites and on their cardboard cars. I can't devote all my time to building my car because my website images, links, and background picture won't show. Fixing these issues holds priority over anything else.

1/31/17

Today, the class was given time to construct their cars. I'm making some progress, but I gotta pick up the pace if I'm gonna finish the project by the deadline.

DESCRIPTION OF MY CAR

My plan is to stack symmetrical pieces of cardboard on top of one another. Then, from the sides, glue on the wheels. These wheels can't move, so I'll then stick pieces of straw inside those wheels and connect another set of wheels to them. Now I have wheels that move.

2/1/17

Today was a Wednesday challenge. The goal of the challenge was to create a better design of the former design that won the last Wednesday challenge. The design was a spinner. My team used a balloon, a straw, and a spinner made from paper as the parts for our design. We presented our idea to the veterans towards the end of the period.
Better Spinner Wed Challenge

2/2/17

Today, Dr. Neato and Mr. Miller gave the class time to build the cars. I'm diong it all: cutting out cardboard, gluing things, etc. I got this in the bag!!!

2/3/17

Today is Friday, and like every Friday, the veterans stood at the front of the class and informed us of their progress regarding the First Robotics Steamworks Challenge. presented the CAD of their robot and explained the overall constitution of their structure.

2/6/17

Today, the teachers gave us more time to build cars. I'm having trouble cutting out the cardboard pieces I need. The boxcutter doesn't work so well. It's hard to cut out circles because I constantly have to keep turning the cutter, and sometimes it doesn't perform like a want it to.

2/7/17

Today, the teachers gave us more time to work on our cars. I'm a little bit behind schedule. I haven't cut out as many pieces as I thought I would by now. I need to pick up the pace, or else I might not finish in time.

2/8/17

Today is Wednesday, which means we had a Wednesday challenge. This challenge acted as a cover-up for the last one, where we had to create a better version of the last-last Wednesday challenge's winning design--a spinner. It turns out that spinners are illegal for the event that it's intended for, so this time, students were assigned into groups and instructed to design a fidget toy that fit all the requirements of the last Wednesday challenge. My group consisted of Alex and Zachary. Our design was a cube with one side transparent and colorful, soft balls inside. To use the fidget toy, you simply shake it and watch the balls bounce around inside their little prison. It's captivating to watch, engaging, and interactive.
Fidget Toy Wed Challenge

2/9/17

MORE TIME TO WORK!!! YAY!!! GOTTA GET BUSY!!! DON'T WANNA FALL BEHIND!!! GOTTA DISPLAY SOME FAKE ENTHUSIASM TOWARDS THIS PROJECT WHICH DR. NEATO REGARDS AS IMPORTANT, BUT IS REALLY JUST A SIMPLE TASK THAT IS FIT FOR SECOND GRADERS!!!

2/10/17

It's that day of the week! The class was forced to watch that video again about the "FIRST ROBOTICS STEAMWORKS CHALLENGE--HAHA!!!" -_-. The vererans presented a more colorful and detailed version of the CAD. After the veterans were finished presenting, the class was given time to work on their cars.

2/14/17

Today, Dr. Neato and Mr. Miller went on a rant about our poor grades. 18 ppl are failing the class--NOT GOOD!!! We gotta work on websites right now, which is what I'm doing while I'm typing this, so I'm golden :).

MY FIRST CAR!!!

FIRST CAR SCORES!!!

My car performed very poorly. I didn't spend enough time crafting it and found myself rushing when constructing its parts. I should've devoted more care and time to my car. My work ethic matches my score: 4 and 1/2 ft distance.

2/15/17

Today was a Wednesday challenge. The class was separated into two teams. Each member of each tube had tubes distributed. We were supposed to pass tubes from one group member to the next in a giant circle. The teams underwent three phases: 1st phase involved passing tubes between members who're side-by-side each other. The next phase was the same thing, only we were standing. The last phase involved passing tubes between alternating members. My group lost because we're a bunch of scrubs.
TubeWedChallenge

2/16/17

Today I did my third trial run for my car. This time it went pretty well. I got over a 100 (insert unit here), which is a huge improvement from last time. Afterwards, I worked on updating my website so that I get an A during grading period. Hurray. :)

2/17/17

With this entry, everything will be ready for this week's grading period. Gonna write random stuff. Pizza, chicken, waffles, syrup, jam, crackers, oil, cars, trains, airplanes, passangers, movies, the amazing world of gumball, etc. etc. etc.

2/21/17

Today, Dr. Neato and Mr. Miller went over grades. It turns out that 14 people are still failing the class. No bueno!!! So the teachers are giving us time to work on our websites. I, however, received a perfect 10 during this week's grading period, so I think I'm pretty much golden.

2/22/17

Today is a Wednesday challenge. The goal of this Wednesday challenge was to form pairs and design an A on Google Sketchup. The file would then be given to another pair, and that pair would have to create a phsycial replica of our A out of cardboard. I've been paired up with Mattie. We managed to finish our A before the period ended, but it looks like we'll be transferring files tomorrow.
AWedChallengeResults
AWedChallenge

2/23/17

Pairs from the last Wednesday challenge received files of As from other groups. These files were distributed at random by the veterans. Mattie and I ended up receiving Cole's A. The A that he made was simple enough. We designed it without a hitch. There's a high possibility that we'll end up winning this challenge. It'll be the first Wednesday challenge that I will ever officially win. Hopefully the work we put in was enough.

2/24/17

Today, the class watched a NASA video about the vastness of space, potential for planet discovery, and potential for life discovery. After, the veterans announced the results of last Wednesday's wednesday challenge. Dr. Neato passed around something cool--I don't even know what it is. It's fragile on the sides and fortified on the top and bottom. The fortified parts had a honeycomb pattern--maybe that had something to do with it. And now I'm on this app because I have to update my website.
Oh, and we also talked about the discovery of 7 Earth-sized planets.

2/27/17

Today, Dr. Neato and Mr. Miller talked about the last grading period. Many people are still failing the class. It's kind of sad really--I mean, all these people have to do is keep their website updated--like, it takes literally 30 seconds to fill in one entry. Wednesday challenge forms aren't tedious either--5 min once a week is all you need to complete one. Nobody should be failing this class--it's easy, interactive, and overall really fun. People just have to take some time out of their lives to update their websites--13 ppl failing in total. I hope the number decreases soon.

2/28/17

I'm gonna be honest. I neglected to fill out this entry for some time. I completely forgot what we did this day--does it really matter though? I don't even think the teachers check our entries--if they do, they don't do it thoroughly. I could probably write about what I had for breakfast today for 2/3/17, and I'd still receive a perfect score, what with all the other entries that I have. My A in this class is pretty much secured, so long as I keep updating my website.

3/1/17

Today was a Wednesday challenge. The goal of this Wednesday challenge was to create 3 rocket transitions and stack them on top of each other. The teachers gave us a guidebook with instructions on how to build the transitions. My partners are Alex, Edgar, and Auron. TransitionsWedChallenge

3/2/17

Today's a continuation of the last Wednesday challenge. Our group decided to create a mold for the transitions utilizing a water bottle and a Pepsi can; in other words, we won't need to rely on the guidebook instructions.

3/3/17

Today's the day where I do the working of the cars and the fixing and maintaining and reconstruction and deconstruction of it's various components and parts. This day will be a glorious day. I will be one step closer to acquiring my right to moving on to step two. I will not fail. I will succeed!

3/6/17

I was not here on school today. Maddy just said some mean things to me. I'm crying on the inside. Ima go home today and eat a bowl of rainbow sherbert ice cream. Shrek is love, Shrek is life. This entry will become the most legendary meme in existence. Throw a fry in there just to be funny. Put it in with the chip. OH MY GOD!!! I know of a place/Where you never get harmed/A magical place/With magical scars/Indoors/Indoors/INNNDOOOOOORRRRRS/TAKE IT AWAY PENNY.

3/7/17

Today, I worked on my car. Narrating out loud. Dr. neato doesn't check entries anyway. Ok. maybe he does. But hey, as long as I say that I worked on my car and constructed the wheels for them and am in the process of gluing the whole product together while reding a horse to school next to a gorilla in the midst of a sunset, double-chocolate chip layer of thick rocky road flavored ice cream. BOOM!!! Entry completed.

3/8/17 Today is Wednesday, so we have another Wednesday challenge. The goal of this Wednesday challenge is to create a sketchup of a box on google sketchup. Limit is 3" by 5 ". We will transfer files with other groups tomorrow and assemble a box according to the sketchup we receive. We build that box, put a pringle chip inside it, and then mail it from Dr. Neato's address to the school.

3/9/17

Wasn't here today.

3/10/17

Was still feeling sick this day. Didn't go.

3/11/17

SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK SICK I WAS SO SICK!!!

3/14/17

Last week's Wednesday challenge is still underway. My group still has to create a Google Sketchup of a box--after its completion, the sketchup will be transferred onto a file and given to some other group. We, in turn, will receive that group's sketchup of a box that they created. But that's taking place tomorrow. I'll have this box designed by the end of the day. Easy :)

3/15/17 A group received my group's file already, and we received that group's file--Arthur's file. We came across some issues with his design--for instance, he didn't include a lid, so my group had to edit it in. Our goal today is to construct the box that Arthur and his group made.

3/16/17

Today, groups were given more time to construct their boxes. Alex is pretty much doing all the constructing. After all, he has a lot more experience cutting boxes than I do. But hey, I did the skethcup, so the workload is about even between us.
Box2
Box1

PREDICTED SCORE VS ACTUAL SCORE

Predicted score was 113.94. Actual score was DQ. WE GOT DISQUALIFIED.

LESSONS LEARNED

Just because a package is bigger, that doesn't mean it handles delicate objects with more care. A package with cushions is key.

3/17/17

Today's a minimum day. The class got to watch the veterans compete in the First Robotics Steamworks Challenge. The matches were really confusing; I couldn't even distinguish our team's robots from the others. Apparently, we won some matches, but ultimately lost the competition. It's alright though. There's always next year!

3/28/17

The veterans gave a brief summary regarding the events related to the First Robotics Steamworks challenge. The class listened for about 35 min. Then Mr. Miller lectured the class about grades again. We had about 5 min. to work on our websites.

3/29/17

It's Wed challenge time! Students chose their own groups. The assignment was to determine whether it would be best to take a full math course or write out one million numbers. They must explain their reasoning to the class once the time period ends.

3/30/17

The results are here! My team has won the Wednesday challenge. First victory baby! WHOO!!! After the results were announced, Dr. Neato went over the required links for next week's website check.
1Mil Wed Challenge

3/31/17

We had a subsitute teacher, and everything on my website was pretty much updated, so I spent the period playing games on the computer using this website.
https://sites.google.com/site/unblockedgames4me/

4/3/17

The veterans informed the class on the results regarding the First Robotics Steamworks Competition. Our team didn't perform very well. We placed at the bottom of the charts. However, we did receive three awards--I forgot which awards we won though. Here's the video of the competition:

SPRING BREAK RECAP

I did a lot of fun things during Spring Break. My family and I went to the beach a lot; I got to hike and hang out with my friends; I played a lot of basketball, worked out at the Y, and even found time to practice piano (which I was barely able to do during school days). I went to the Americana a couple of times and paraded around Honolulu in the night. My friends and I visited stores and purchased refreshments. I ate out a lot with them due to the fact that my parents were working during the day, and I didn't know how to cook for myself. At home, things were pretty calm. I spent some time walking my dog and reading books. I also spent a lot of time on my laptop watching anime and videos.

4/4/17

Today, the teachers gave the students time to work on their websites. I'm working on my diligently, as you could see from this entry. I'm typing exciting stuff, interesting news, B.S. segments and short clips of random, nonexistent videos that don't make a bit of sense. You can't see them because they're nonexistent. Don't bother looking for them. You won't find them.

4/5/17

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's time for a Wednesday Challenge. The goal of today's challenge is to gather and record the measurements of a circular object and use the formulas (provided by Dr. Neato) in order to determine the quantity of pi. My partners were David, Edgar, and Shaunt.
PiWC
Here's our work.

4/6/17

Today, I finally completed Step 1 for building a skateboard. The car I made went at least 140 inches (according to Mr. Miller). Dr. Neato informed me that I could skip step 2 and get right to designing a skateboard. Yay!!!

4/7/17

Grading period's tomorrow, meaning that students have one more hour to update their websites. I'm prepared! I'm ready! This entry is the last thing I need to be fully prepared. Bring on the grading Dr. Neato!!! YOU DON'T SCARE ME >:(.

4/10/17

Today's a block schedule, meaning that students attend 3 2-hour long periods. At the beginning of class, I worked on updating my website. A little bit into the class period, Dr. Neato informed me and reflected on last week's grading period. I don't know if what I typed necessarily made sense. I'm not a very good writer. This is pretty dang hard. At this point, I'm pretty much just rambling. But yeah, Dr. Neato's going over grades, and I'm chatting away in this entry. This should be enough :)
Here are the grades.
Grades
Also, Kevin showed the class some tricks to making a good skateboard sketchup. Here's the video.

4/11/17 Today is a block schedule, meaning that this class lasts two hours. Dr. Neato everyone time to update or work on whatever they need to do. Right now, I'm working hard to create a Sketchup of Dr. Neato's skateboard. The tips that Kevin gave to the class significantly helped me in executing this endeavor. The arc tool is especially helpful in replicating the curves of Dr. Neato's skateboard. I'll continue to work hard so that later on, I'll be able to design and create my very own skateboard.

4/12/17 No class today

4/13/17

Today's another block schedule period. I'm in the middle of designing my skateboard. I'm working on the hinges, which, relative to me, are pretty small in length, so they're really frustrating to measure. I'll be able to get them done by the end of the period though.

4/14/17

It's almost the end of the period. I managed to put the finishing touches on my skateboard Sketchup. Ima show the board to Mr. Miller and see what he thinks.
CONTINUATION--Mr. Miller had a couple critiques. He thought the board was too curvy and saw something wrong with the hinges. Ima work on it on Monday.

4/17/17

I finally finished the skateboard sketchup. My design was approved by Dr. Neato, and now I can start designing my own board. Here's the side-by-side comparison of my skateboard sketchup and the physical board.
4/18/17

Today's a block scehdule. With the test board finished, I am now able to work on my own board. Today's focus is to conjure and design a board of my choosing on Google Sketchup. I don't exactly know what I want the length of my board to be, but as long as I stay within the dimension limits, I think I should be okay.

4/19/17

No class today

4/20/17

Today is block schedule. Right now, I'm updating my website. When I'm done with this, I'm going finish my skateboard design.
(EDIT)--I'm done with my design. Time to get it printed! Here are some pictures of it.

4/21/17

No class today.

4/25/17

The veterans finally came back from Houston! They discussed with the class the events that transpired during the First Robotics Steamworks Challenge and our overall performance in the competition.
REGARDING THE ROBOTICS COMPETITION AND CHAMPIONSHIP
Our team lost. sometimes during the battles, technical difficulties occurred. We didn't measure up to the competition. But the veterans' efforts did not go to waste. They got to meet some pretty influential ppl and had a lot of fun participating.

4/26/17

Today's a Wednesday challenge. The goal of today's challenge is to draw cut-lines for a 5' X 5' piece of wood. The width of each piece of would-be cut wood must be equal, and each piece must have a width of 10". The length cannot be more then 46", and it cannot be less than 32".

5/27/17

Today, we were told of the results of the 5' by 5' Wednesday Challenge. Evan's group won because they considered the thickness of the blade cutting the board when doing their Wednesday Challenge. After that, he gave us time to work on whatever we needed to work on.
5'X5'WC

5/28/17

Today, Mr. Neat showed us a video about a space program. He told us about how they worked on it for an enormous amount of years. And once they launch, they also have to keep track of it in space. Afterwards, he gave us time to work on whatever we needed to work on.

5/1/17

Today, I cut out a print-out of the skateboard I made on Google Sketchup. The dimensions of the print-out matched the actual dimensions of what the skateboard would be. While piecing the whole thing, I realized that my skateboard was too small in length, so now I have to edit my skateboard or just start the whole thing over.

5/2/17

Unfortunately, I couldn't attend this period because I was in the middle of an AP Physics AB exam. Much sadness, such wow :(.

5/3/17

Today, the class had a Wednesday challenge. We did the challenge in pairs--I was partnered up with Alex. The goal of the challenge was to construct a paper airplane. Then, we'd write down the instructions for creating the airplane and swap instructions with another pair. We had to make a paper airplane by following the swapped instructions and then fly those airplanes. The group with the furthest flying airplane wins.
PaperAirplaneWC

5/4/17

I wasn't in class today. I was sick.

5/5/17

I was sick today too.

5/6/17

I did something pretty interesting this Saturday. Some admissions people at Cal Poly Pomona held a seminar that went over the various science/math/engineering/technology majors that students could take on campus. I was able to attend part of this seminar and was fortunate to stay long enough to try out a car experiment involving charge and hydropower.

5/8/17

Today, Dr. Neato gave students time to work on whatever they needed to work on. I'm currently working on my skateboard. I have to print out an actual-sized version of my skateboard. It'll take some time for the papers to print, so while that's taking place, I'll be working on this website :).

5/9/17

The printing in finished. I can finally start taping up my skateboard. I should be done with this step by the end of the class period. If I'm not, I'll take the printout home and work on it there.

5/10/17

Today, I participated in a Wednesday challenge. The goal of the challenge was to construct a paper boat that could float in water for 5 minutes while supporting a certain weight--the magnitude of the weight is determined by the student. Students are limited to using solely one sheet of construction paper for their boat. The boat that supports the most amount of weight while staying afloat wins.
PBWC

5/11/17

The printout of my skateboard is finally taped up, so I can now move on to cutting it out. Before I do that, however, I must work on my website so that it's up to date and ready to be graded during the weekend. Here's a picture of my taped printout.

5/12/17

Today, I'm updating my website. Writing these updates and completing these entries so that my website will be pristine and ready for the next grading period. Afterwards, I'll work on my skateboard.

5/15/17

Today, I'm cutting out cardboard for my board-board. The cut outs must be 10 in. in length. I'm cutting out these pieces from a large rectangular-shaped piece of cardboard.

5/16/17

Today, Edgar and I are helping each other out. I'm taping and cutting out his printout, and he's cutting out the pieces of cardboard that I need. The fire alarm went off today, but it was a false alarm. Edgar and I continued with our tasks when we got back.

5/17/17

Today's a Wednesday challenge. Everyone must work together in order to complete the challenge. The goal of the challenge is to build a structure according to a CAD that Dr. Neato provided to each student. Students formed pairs and each pair contributed to the construction of the structure on a turn-by-turn basis. One student in the active pair is blind, and the other one guides the blind student. Each pair has 30 seconds total to contribute.
BlindWC

5/18/17

Today, I'm working on my board. I'm finishing cutting out the cardboard so that I could glue them and progress with my cardboard-board.

5/19/17

Welp, I'm giving up on the board. I'm progressing at a painstakingly slow rate, it's not worth it to continue. I'm gonna tell Dr. Neato that I throw in the towel. I don't want to do this anymore.

5/22/17

Today marks the beginning of the final regular week of school. The people who aren't working with wood on the skateboard project must take part in the final Wed. challenge that Mr. Miller has planned. Students are to form pairs and create a water filter by Friday. The container for the filter will be provided by Mr Miller, and the filter can only be made with the materials found on CV's campus.

5/23/17 Edgar and I are watching Youtube videos to figure out how to build a water filter.

5/24/17

One of the materials that Edgar and I need to build the water filter is charcoal. There is no usable charcoal on campus, so today, Mr. Miller's helping us--along with some other groups--create charcoal by burning wood inside a container with a propane torch.

5/25/17

Edgar and I are on the hunt for the materials. We are gathering cotton, charcoal, pebbles, sand, grass, and rocks. With the materials, we shall contruct the filter.

5/26/17

Edgar and I lost the challenge. I blame the loss on our lack of charcoal. We took the L. GG.
